Recently, my grandson Cedric got married to a very lovely girl. They had an outdoor wedding and I needed a nice dress to wear. As grandmother of the groom I knew I needed to up my game from my regular attire. Khaki shorts just weren’t going to cut it, even though they would be a lot cooler.

This is a very easy dessert to make if you don’t mind getting sticky. Keep a damp paper towel nearby! I quartered my apples and used the blade side of my box grater to slice them. All the slices were uniform in size and I didn’t have to worry about chopping off my finger when the pieces of apple got too small.

Hubby and I do what we can to keep our plot of kudzu from spreading. We are constantly on kudzu patrol. But we can only do so much, because Cousin Ambrose has three acres of kudzu around the next curve. One little puff of wind when kudzu is in bloom and we are infected.

They call me the old kudzu scout. I hunt it down, and point it out. Then Dad gets out his trusty knife, And whacks away and ends its life. Then, we EAT IT!

Last week we took a break from cabin life and went on a little adventure in Bryson City, NC. We like to join Eloise and Theodore on train rides through the Nantahala National forest. We’ve done this several times and really enjoy it, but driving there and back in a day is exhausting. How does one get so tired sitting in a car for hours? This is one of life’s mysteries.

At this time of year, we have watermelon in our house nonstop until the end of August. We follow all the rules for picking a good one: creamy yellow color on the bottom, hollow sound when tapped, heaviest one we can find. Sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we get what we get.

As I entered the building, a sweet little lady in a wheelchair asked me if I would mind holding the door for her. How could I refuse?

Chia Fruit Pudding was an accidental discovery. I was making a smoothie without measuring – if you know me, you know I have an aversion to measuring things – and I got too many chia seeds compared to too little liquid!
