2 Granny Smith apples

1 can cinnamon roll dough

2 Tbls. lemon juice

4 Tbls. butter, melted

4 Tbls. brown sugar

Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°.

Step 2: Grease a 9” pie plate.

Step 3: Unwind the cinnamon rolls and form a spiral in the pie plate.

Step 4: Thinly slice apples to 1/8” slices. Put in a large microwave-safe bowl.

Step 5: Mix lemon juice, brown sugar and melted butter and pour over apples.

Step 6: Microwave for 2 minutes or until the apples are pliable.

Step 7: Arrange 8 slices into a rose shape in the center of the pie plate. Fill gaps in the spiral with remaining apple slices.

Step 8: Bake 20-25 minutes until the dough has browned. Remove from oven and spread with icing or dust with powdered sugar.

This is a very easy dessert to make if you don’t mind getting sticky. Keep a damp paper towel nearby! I quartered my apples and used the blade side of my box grater to slice them. All the slices were uniform in size and I didn’t have to worry about chopping off my finger when the pieces of apple got too small.

The grocery store had the caramel-flavored cinnamon rolls on display, so I tried those with this recipe. Good decision. This variety comes with caramel frosting – perfect with apples this time of year. I am going to try this recipe again with the regular cinnamon rolls and add pumpkin spice mix to the icing.

I make my own pumpkin spice mix by using the pumpkin pie recipe on the back of Libby’s canned pumpkin: 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ginger, ¼ teaspoon ground cloves.

ENJOY!
